Pesum Minsaaram.. Fantastic four

Tamil film music has got as much 40 [ approx ] new music directors in the last 1 year, it seems and of course, it’s healthy to have them [ as long as they do good ]. Sharing the recent songs I came across..
1. Maalai neram.. mazhai thoorum kaalam.
Film : Ayirathil oruvan
Singer : Andrea Jeremiah, GV Prakash Kumar
MD : GV Prakash kumar
Lyrics : Selvaraghavan
The guitar beginning may resemble the “Naane naane” old song and then the magical voice of Andrea makes us to forget everything. It was sung by Andrea Jeremiah — yes the wet , white shirt ‘pachaikili muthucharam’ girl [ Adadaa :) ]. The song has less instruments ; a simple beat, guitar and a lot of space for Andrea to play. She has done a perfect job with changing her voice in between [ sometimes resembling Bombay Jayashree ]. The humming was done by GVPrakash.. Watch the voice in Oru kaalaiyil neeyillai. Simply superb. If you think Selva has written his experience in this song, I may agree to that !
2. On mela aasa thaan
Film : Ayirathil oruvan
Singer : Dhanush, Aishwarya Dhanush and Andrea Jeremiah
MD : GV Prakash kumar
Lyrics : Selvaraghavan
It’s a fancy song and a mix of a folk type song with western backdrop. Dhanush has played it safe and knows his range. the pure Tamil part is done by Andrea “theindhozhindhu, uzhandru”. I was attracted to this song after hearing it multiple times. The flute piece is soothing in the song. The other good music got in this album was ‘Celebration of life’ — mysterious flute music. Looking forward to see this on big screen. Don’t worry much about Selva writing the lyrics.. Remember, his father’s himsai in IR’s music.
3. Pesum Minsaram
Film : Yathumaagi
Singer : Benny Dayal
MD : James Vasanthan.
Lyrics : Mohanrajan
Beautiful n soothing number from James Vasanthan. One more interesting singer — Benny Dayal [ Kangall Irandaal singer ].. It starts with Aaandhenna Avadhenna.. Look for sparkling guitar and music arrangement, which carries the the song [ choir music may come in between — it’s fine ]. I like the way he sang this song — “kaadhal idhuvo” in a high range. Landmark/Funtainhead — I remember hearing these kinds of English songs when we glance throught the books. They can replace their songs with these good numbers now !
4. Azhagaai pookudhe.
Film : Ninaithaale Inikum
Singer : Prasanna, Janaki Iyer
MD : Vijay Anthony
Lyrics : Kalaikumar
Piano magic ..The lyrics was penned by Kalaikumar and it’s just fabulous. Vijay Antony is the MD in demand now for his hit songs mainly based on fast beats. However, he has done good job in melody area too.
Another warning I have is about the ‘Paa’ songs. Disappointing — that’s what I felt :( It doesn’t have Shreya Goshal this time [ Krishna.. Note the point ! ] and the tunes are just ok. Only one song ‘Mudi Mudi’ [ Shilpa Rao’s version ] is good and the theme song made me to hear ‘Kaatu vazhi’ from ‘Adhu oru kanaa kaalam’ because the PAA theme music [ good except IR’s voice ] has the same interlude. [ the interlude was fabulous, of course ].
Listen to the ‘Thumbi Vaa’ version in Hindi ‘Gum Sum’ sung by Bhavatharani [ KadavullE ! ] and you’ll understand, why I felt so. Halke se bole made me listen ‘Puthum pudhu kaalai’ once more — that’s the antedote.
Ende Raja Pazhassi Raja aayi :( .. Let’s see, what will Balki do for the next time ??!!
Happy listening.
:)

Toto,
Thanks for introducing these songs. I listened to 3 of these and they are pleasant to hear.
One thing, nowadays, I listen to songs only in Youtube and I have created playlists and listen to it one after the other. I do not watch, I start the song and walkaround and do other stuff but listen to the songs…
If you are listening these songs you refer in youtube, can you also give us the URL in the post itself? that way we do not have to check that in youtube. If that is not a big trouble — it will help me since some of the songs you mention may not even be available for us — something like hindi version of Thumbi Vaa…(Nalla Paatunga adhu). Even tamil song for that tune was not that good compared to Thumbi Vaa…
Anyway, Thanks for the post.
Thanks
Venkat
Thanks Rajan for the comments.. I get them randomly from FM channels and track them later in the net.
Thanks Venkat for the comments. Pls don’t expect the visuals to be fine, always. Sorry about missing the youtube URLs ! Next time, I’ll correct.
